La Grande and Clarkston

We made a trip over to La Grande and then on up to Clarkston for a few days toward the end of the summer.  We went to visit family and help work on some stuff at my grandparents house.  The kids always have a blast when we visit family.

Craig had a golf tournament and we were able to go and watch for a little while.  Carter LOVED everything about the golf course and especially loved riding around in the golf cart.

My aunt and uncle and cousins live near an airport that had bombers taking off for forest fires.  We got to go out there and watch and actually got lucky enough to see one take off.  It was the craziest thing I have ever watched!  It literally went directly over our heads and was not very far off the ground.  It was soooooo loud!  We left Madelynn at home but Carter loved it.  It was a bit scary but so cool.

We were just hanging out waiting for a bomber to take off.

And here it goes...
At this point I was literally saying...what if it doesn't get up high enough.  I was freaking out.  It felt like it was going to just fly right into us.  And the noise was nothing like I expected.  It was so loud!

Pretending to fly with daddy.  Love these two.

And of course, we had to go visit the John Deer store and test out all of the tractors.

My family doesn't have cable so we went down to my uncle's Dad's retirement home so that we could watch Cami sing on America's Got Talent.

We spent a couple nights in La Grande and then headed on over to Clarkston where my grandparents live.  The road going from La Grande to Clarkston is called Rattle Snake.  It is a windy, narrow, dangerous road.  There was a rock in the road that Jay thought he could make it over and drove over it.  The road is so windy and there is no where to get off the road (rock wall on one side and cliff on the other side) so he made the decision to go over the rock.  Well, the rock hit the underside of our car and made this huge noise.  We ended up stopping at the only restaurant for miles at the bottom of the mountain.  When we came back out to the van (in 100 degree weather) we saw that oil was leaking out of our van and there was a stream of it going down the hill.  Not good.  The rock had apparently put a hole in our oil tank.  Well, we were still an hour from Clarkston with zero cell service at a little restaurant in 100 degree weather.  We had to call my aunt in Clarkston to come pick us up and have the van towed.  $400 later and many hours later, the van was towed to Clarkston and the next day we had our van back.  Quite the drama.  Carter loved it though :)  He still talks about it today.

Finally in Clarkston...
Carter got to play with my cousins son Toby and we all got to meet the newest baby, Titus.  Carter enjoyed playing with his cousins.

My uncles and Jay helped put in a brand new shower in my grandma's bathroom.  They worked on that the whole weekend and Carter loved being a part of it when he could.  He was very interested in all the work.

Jay and Craig cleaned all the moss off of my grandparents house too.

And Carter had a blast playing with the golf cart.  He even got to go on a few rides.

Playing in Great Grandma's dryer.  Good place to play.

And we had to stop by and see the big tank at the cemetery.  Carter loved this!

It was a nice trip!
