A Trip to La Grande

My cousin Carrie graduated from high school in June as well and we were able to make a trip over to La Grande to be there for the celebration.  She was homeschooled so they did a party/graduation ceremony all in one.  We were very glad to be able to be there to celebrate with her but sadly we had a puking baby girl the entire weekend.  Amazingly, she had a lot of great moments where you couldn't even tell she was sick.  Unfortunately, she had a lot of moments where she was extremely sick.  She had thrown up one time each night for the last two nights while she was sleeping.  Each morning we woke up and found that she had thrown up while she was sleeping.  She never cried or anything.  We just kept assuming it was a fluke because during the day she was completely fine.  That was, until Friday morning when we left for La Grande.  She threw up multiple times in the first two hours of our drive there.  We were pulled over on the side of the highway frequently cleaning her and her car seat up.  It was awful!  It was hard to know if we should keep driving toward La Grande or head back home.  We texted my aunt and asked her if we should still come when we were about half way there and she said yes!  Thankfully no one else got sick that was around her so we made the right decision in continuing on with our trip.  It just made for quite an adventure.

Carter had so much fun playing with all of the family and playing in their back yard.  They have a great back yard and Carter was in heaven!  He also had a lot of people giving him their full attention which he also appreciates greatly.

They had lots of fun playing in the water.

Our sweet but very sick little girl.  She looks pretty good though for being so sick!  We were blessed greatly with a really good day on Saturday.  She went the entire day without throwing up and was really acting like she was on the mend.  She didn't start going downhill again until dinner Saturday night.  She wouldn't eat anything and was starting to act sick again.  She made it through all of the festivities though and was a trooper!  It wasn't until the middle of the night Saturday night that she started throwing up again :(  Jay and Carter were sleeping in a tent in the backyard with Craig so I was on my own with a puking baby.  She woke up in the middle of the night with an major diaper explosion.  The worst I had ever seen!  It took quite a while to get her and her bed completely cleaned up from that and I was doing it mostly one handed because she cried if I tried putting her down.  Since we were in a house full of people I was trying my best to keep her quite but also clean up massive amounts of poop.  I finally got her cleaned up and was laying with her in bed when she started throwing up again.  At that point I was over trying to do it by myself.  I grabbed a towel, shoved it in front of her while she continued to puke, walked through the entire house to the back yard, woke up Jay, and asked for help.  He came in and stayed with me until she stopped throwing up and we cleaned her up.  Then we snuggled for a while and she went back to sleep in her crib.  The puking didn't stop there though.  While we packed to head home that next morning she continued to throw up.  Thankfully my Grandma and my cousin Carrie didn't mind holding and snuggling a puking baby so that Jay and I could pack up all of our stuff.  She threw up a couple more times on our way home but nothing horrible.  We were rushing to get home to get to Jacob's graduation party and we were very blessed to be able to drive basically straight through.  We stopped for lunch but ate it on the road and didn't stop again.  We made it to Jacob's party only to have Madelynn start throwing up again.  She was acting like she was starving so we tried giving her crackers and pedialite, which we found to be a huge mistake!  She couldn't keep anything down.  I called an advice nurse from the party and talked to her for a long time.  She did not send us to the hospital which we were kind of expecting.  Oh, I guess I should stop with the sick story and continue that on the next blog when I post all of the pictures from our hospital visit.  Back to La Grande...

Playing with Uncle Don.  My kids had a blast with him.

Uncle Don was trying to get her to walk and she wanted nothing to do with it!

They had a little putting green at the graduation party.  Carter loved golfing.

On our way out of town we stopped at the John Deer Store.  Carter loved it!

The great thing about a boy!  Carter had to pee and there was no bathroom.  But there was a tree!

We had a great short trip to be with family.  Congrats Carrie on graduating high school!  We are proud of you!
